Link Narcissustic

Box Office Mojo The Tourist with Depp & Jolie will be opening in 2010. Time to adjust those Oscar charts? Yeah, yeah. I'll try to start this weekend.
Rope of Silicon mixes Inception music over Black Narcissus images for a 2010 trailer for the 1947 classic. Neato (if a bit spoilery)
Mighty God King P.S.A: Fozzy vs. Pac-Man (?!)
I Need My Fix pics from the premiere of The Switch. In a just world Juliette Lewis would be 1,000 times more famous than Jennifer Aniston. You know it's true.
Dennis Cozzalio just turned 50 and celebrates with a funny post. (Mmmm, brains.) Go wish him a happy 1/2 century year! I mean it.

Camp Blood True Blood "Rolling Stone" cover now made extra gay!
DListed Speaking of... Alexander Skarsgard cracks me up. So casual about his scorchingness. What would Daddy Stellan think of all of this?
popbytes has my favorite reaction to this whole sockless news. How do you really feel about this "news" Jeremy? Quit hedging!
Ginger Williams made nesting dolls of Golden Girls and Steel Magnolias. Wha...?
The Entertainment Junkie remembers Lost in Translation and thinks Sofia Coppola's Oscar is a bit of a cheat (in a complimentary way!)
BlogStage Jenelle meets Dennis Quaid. I love it when writers meeting their acting idols. Sweet.

Off Screen
Tom Scott I love these warning labels to place on bad journalism. My favorite is the press release one. So many blogs are like that. Sigh. Though you can't really stick stickers on a blog. Can you? You wouldn't be able to see your screen when you click away!
Just Jared Ricky Martin's memoir is called Me. That's all they could come up with?

And finally, for no reasons other than it made me laugh, excuse me, lol -- and I am the type that reads scifi/fantasy novels -- and I'm in a juvenile mood (sorry!) try this hilarious raunchy ode to sci-fi novelist. NSFW unless you're on headphones.

Curio: Pick Your Cupcake

Alexa from Pop Elegantiarum here. Anyone who follows my blog knows that I'm all about pop culture sweets, and cupcakes are on top of the list. There's nothing better than a great movie cupcake on Oscar night, and I still haven't come up with a plan on what to bake for this year's party. Blue Avatar treats? Hurt Locker bomb component cakes? By way of inspiration, here are a few of my past film-themed favorites.

I've been meaning to replicate Deidre Jean's Fargo wood chipper cupcakes for some time now, but I'm nervous about sickening my guests:

A bit more enticing are my Sugar Magnolias. I can tell you from experience that no one turns down a Dolly Parton red velvet cupcake:

For Oscar night, instead of choosing one film maybe I could follow Leigh-Anne Dennison's example: she created these movie-treat sprinkled, poster-topped cakes for 2008's awards:

For those of you in New York with cash to spare, Eleni's bakery makes fantastic Oscar night treats. Check out last year's Oscar cupcakes:

This year, Eleni's is making equally fantastic (and pricey) best actress and actor cookies:

Enjoy! Now I'm off to figure out how to make wires and detonators out of fondant...

"pink silk bunting draped over anything that would stand still"

I'm so anxious to discuss this topic for the 900th time this week

Stage Magnolias

Tried to watch this on Broadway last night. Only made it halfway through. It was just so lifeless to me. Whether that's because I know the movie too well or because this particular staging was uninspired or the cast was all wrong, I'm still trying to figure out. Mostly it just wasn't funny. And the first half should be really funny. The line readings seemed very off. Like a high school play with actors waiting to have each other's lines end before they spoke their own. Not very interactive/natural. At least for the first half I was not impressed --maybe it got better? But, Delta Burke is no Dolly Parton. And there's no getting around that for her and for most of this cast.

So I came home and settled into Once & Again again with the blanket around me (my apartment is suddenly like ice -damn landlord!) and the cat on my lap. How domesticated is that?! Still, if you need comfort, take it. Nothing better than warmth when you're cold.

I still haven't seen the new Woody Allen. argh.
