Reader Poll Results! Who You're Rooting For On Oscar Night

You've had your say in various Oscar categories so I thought I'd share results. For Best Picture, your top three preferences are also the Academy's assumed leaders: The Sexy Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Avatar. Up in the Air missed its connection (har-dee-har-har... I'm just inoculating myself to unfortunate "banter" as preparation for Oscar night. Deal with it) arriving in very distant 4th place.

Last night's Spirit Award winner Precious, tied with UP for 5th place. What an odd double bill that makes, Pixar & Precious. I am suddenly reimagining Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire as a Pete Docter/Andrew Stanton 3D 'toon...

It's ________ [complete the sentence if you dare]

You chose the same medalist order for Best Actor that I did in my personal awards, giving your top (collective) prize not to the future Oscar winner but to Colin Firth's grieving Single Man. Jeff Bridges took silver and Jeremy Renner bronze. Meryl Streep won your Best Actress prize for Julie & Julia but all the nominees save Helen Mirren had their fair share of support among Film Experience readers. Christoph Waltz won Supporting Actor in a huge landslide, the biggest of any category. Mo'Nique crushed her competitors in Supporting Actress and she didn't need a TV set to do it.

Bigelow, Giacchino, Richardson... might they all win tomorrow?

In other categories, Kathryn Bigelow easily triumphed as Best Director for The Sexy Locker, Bright Star trumped The Young Victoria in Costume Design, that Basterd Robert Richardson took cinematography honors (narrowly beating Christian Berger's black and white work on The White Ribbon) and Michael Giacchino original score from UP made more than half the readers swoon.

  • Pssst, if you look at the acting and picture pages, you'll notice new details ("how'd they get nominated?" and such) Better late than never, right?
